Imagine statues of important historical figures. Sculpted with meticulous detail, they immortalize the faces and emotions of the greats who have left us. But you and I are ordinary individuals. A hundred years from now, will the intricacies of our faces be remembered by future generations? If anything, will we even remember our own?

This piece focuses on the feelings of someone who has left and shows melancholy. In life, it is natural for someone to leave me or for me to leave someone, but it is not something I am accustomed to, losing someone and leaving them as memories tends to strike me the hardest as emotional pain. Believing the human eye best reveals emotions, I created happiness, sorrow, and deep weeping. Children represent both our past selves, which remain as memories, and the age that best expresses emotions. Our sadness and emptiness, left only in memories that may be forgotten, are captured in bright tears at the center.

This photo, featuring a moon in light blue sky, captures a moment on my way home during my elementary school in summer. In my memory, winter air tousled our hair as my friends and I strolled back home, with an steaming hot dog in hands. Because it was winter, as night fell earlier, the sky is a deep sapphire blue. While in summer, the sky was a refreshing blue, as refreshing as blueberry soda. With ice-cream melting on hand and birds chirping overhead, my friends and I went home laughing and talking.
All of these night skies fill up my childhood with varying blue, embracing simple and beautiful memories.

This watercolor painting features a teal wooden door surrounded by vibrant blue/purple flowers and potted plants, exploring the theme of “Forget Me Not” with the fallen petals of the flowers serving as a “reminder” of those who have left after they exit the “door” of ISB. I aim to create a sense of nostalgia and reflection related to the bittersweet nature of goodbyes. This painting represents the past that they’ve left behind, yet at the same time the future that they are embarking on.
